How To Be Smart and Stylish At The Same Time

Current trends follow a "smart" and "connected" line. So why not make it also exclusive?

The Story

How to disconnect with elegance

“In a culture of constant distraction, everyone competes for your time and attention. Luxury today is your ability to protect it”.

That’s how SPKTRL, a brand whose goal is to redefine the way we plan and live our days, presents itself on their official website. This is incredible because in a time where you can track (or be tracked) almost every aspect of your life online, the challenge of balancing your screen time with your real life can be overwhelming.

Let’s be honest: in this time for some people, going offline is one of the most pursued attractive lifestyles.

Which is also a contradiction because we are letting people that we are not available after a time where we, actually, were online. Do you know what I mean? You cannot go offline if you were not online before.

Does that mean that you have to disappear without leaving any trace? Absolutely not, and this is an extreme side we need to avoid. Most of activities are, in a lower or higher degree, dependent to technology in our period of time: making money without going to an office, schools that now have digital classrooms like Coursera, finding information without visiting a library, and the most important:

Personal lives are also digital now. So in some way, they are not that personal, isn’t it?

And this is when SPKTRL caught my eye, because it will use a system designated to redefine the signals (yes, that was an intended pun) that we receive in our surroundings.

The ring is going to filter the type of notifications or special moments of the day, so that you can decide in a second what action to do, based on the theory of colours. This accessory will protect you from the noise of the economy of engagement, so you can continue working on that project, spending more time with your family, or actually stopping because there is an emergency.

SPKTRL was born recently, but I am excited about how they are going to merge technology into the aesthetics and intimacy of what jewellery represents.

This convergence is quite challenging because Data is one of the most complex issues in our society, even one of the most powerful tools (for better or for worse), and I find it exciting to see where this new category of luxury brands goes.

New Format

You may be wondering why this post is looking different from the last one.

I thought it would be easier for both (you and me) to simplify my newsletter. There are plenty of ideas I haven’t posted because I was always trying to make it perfect.

So why not just dedicate a single post to every language and rotate them as I prefer?

It’s about enjoying also the process.

After all, not everything is perfect in the beginning.

My last trip? Brussels! (Actually, it was Lyon and Geneva, will share with you some pictures in the next post!)

What I’m Reading Now

I am at home everywhere, and nowhere. I am never a stranger and I never quite belong.
