What is the savoir-faire?

This is a concept that I listen to every once in a while, now that I live in the country that is known for being the luxury industry leader: France. 

It is one of those words that seem to be part of the daily french vocabulary, even if you are not really into what is going on in the prestigious brands.

If we take the literal translation to English, we are going to find something called ‘know-how’, which is in a few words the ability to do something in the way that is supposed to, i.e., you can solve a specific problem, and you know how to do it, but there is not a specific way to do it, you just know, you know what I mean? (wow, I have used the word ‘know’ 5 times in this same paragraph).

However, this is not a fair translation of the savoir-faire.

Neither the Spanish version, saber hacer, comes close, and I would put it in the same line as our English lads.

The savoir-faire is being able to perform a task with success in the most sophisticated way possible, where the knowledge is preserved for the good of the society and culture.

The reason? Luxury brands are concerned not just about how to innovate in the current state of their market, but also about having a place in the history of the world. When you are working in this type of industry, besides arousing interest for the exclusivity, the goal is to be at the heart.

The heart of what? You can say of the customer, the market, the industry, the culture… but in my opinion, savoir-faire is to be at the heart of history.

J'écris cet article dans mon train. Je suis en direction de chez moi.

Cela fait 3 ou 4 semaines que j'avais arrêté d'écrire cette newsletter, parce que je me disais que jamais j'avais le temps pour m'asseoir et prendre le temps de réfléchir sur quelque chose je pouvais vous partager.

La vie d'adulte ce n'est pas facile, et je sais que ça s'écoute un peu bizarre ou naïf de ma part car je suis quelqu'un jeune.

Mais c'est vrai. Quand tu grandis, si tu ne décides quelles sont tes priorités, tu ne vas pas réussir avec tes projets. À mon avis, c'est une question d'organisation et bien visualiser qu'est-ce que tu veux  vraiment.

Oui, je t'ai commencé à tutoyer même si il y a quelques lignes j'ai utilisé vous. C'est une chose que je vais arrêter de faire, mais je vais laisser cette partie pour me souvenir de ce moment dans le futur. Si tu veux apprendre, n'ignore pas tes défauts !

Au fait, le but c'est de pratiquer une de mes passions les plus importantes : une langue, et surtout, la langue française.

20 minutes et j'arrive. Amoureux de ma femme a commencé dans la playlist que étais dans mon portable. Immédiatement je m'assure que c'est ma tasse de café (oui, j’adore cette expression, c’est à ma mesure).

Le train est arrivé.
